Making our app fun and useful really sparks joy!
From big updates like AI Humanizer, Content Audit, and Topic Explorer to smaller tweaks like fine-tuning Insert Outline, Auto-Optimize or Internal Links, the past three months have been a whirlwind of releases that made the Surfer community happy and us satisfied (see May's and June's product roundups).
But, in a true Marie Condo fashion, it's time to clean up and reorganize and that's where our focus will be during summer 2024.
That said, I still have product updates for you π

We significantly improved the Insert Outline feature within Content Editor π₯ Now, when inserting outline you will get a comprehensive outline with headings, bullet points, and SEO terms already covered. π
You can use it as a writing guideline for yourself or as a brief for any external writers you are working with.
Give it a try and let us know what you think; if you will be happy about this update, we will incorporate it into the Outline Builder π

Content Audit Beta is already available to all Surfers β€οΈ From monitoring your content's performance to suggestions on best SEO opportunities and notifications with action plans when your position in SERPs drops (coming soon), Content Audit will save you lots of time and help focus on what matters most: ranking.
Here's Tom Niezgoda, our Head of Marketing, explaining how it works:
And here's a step-by-step on how to use it (if you prefer to read):
Under Content Audit, you can select the domain you wish to audit. If you have multiple GSC accounts, you can pick them from the dropdown.
The tool will automatically detect the main location of your site, but you can click on it to update the location. Click Add Site from there.
Content Audit will then show your top 100 pages.
Each URL we pull from your GSC property will get data on its Impressions, Traffic (Clicks), and Click-Through Rate (CTR) for the last 60 days.
The latest 30-day data will be shown in the reports, while the prior 30-day data will be shown if you hover over the increase/decrease indicators in the table.
Additionally, we'll select your main keyword based on traffic and show the average position of the page for that keyword. Then, it will analyze the SERPs to calculate your Content Scores.
Within Content Audit, you have the option to:
Content Audit will also immediately highlight the low-hanging fruits under the π₯ Best opportunities tab.
These pages rank between 4th and 20th and are likely to respond quickly with the best traffic increase by simply optimizing the Content Score. π
You can also apply your own criteria and prioritize work according to custom filters.
After you decide on which pages you want to re-optimize, simply open them in Content Editor and speed-optimize with Auto-optimize and Internal Linking to make things easier! π (or do it manually with Content Editor guidelines - up to you!)

We've been working for a while on making content planning easier and more intuitive for you and the results are finally here π enter: Topic Explorer.
You've probably already noticed that the Keyword Research tool in the app's navigation changed its name to Topic Explorer.
I already went over Topic Explorer updates in May product newsletter but in case you've missed it I'll walk you through the most important changes once more π
The Topic Explorer tab is now essentially a hub for all of your content planning resources: Domain Maps, Topical Maps, Keyword Researches, and soon CSV Clusters.
From here you can browse through your existing projects, as well as create new ones.
Topic Explorer is more than just a design refresh, so let's go through the goodies one by one:
You can now connect your Google Search Console and receive an instant overview of your domain's topical authority: which clusters are already covered and ranking, which still need work, and where you have content gaps to take care of next.
β
You can view it in a table or graph format.
You can also use the filters to compare what your competitors are already covering or to see an estimated keyword difficulty of each cluster.
You can connect multiple domains and create a Domain Map for each. All maps will auto-update every 30 days to reflect your current work and changes in SERP.
β
If youβre trying to populate a new website, make a shift into a new sector of the market, or simply want to grow your current websiteβs topical authority, you need relevant content that shows your expertise and drives traffic. Enter: Topical Map. No more guessing, just neat, relevant, and easy-to-execute article ideas in minutes.
Here is what changed:
Soon, you will be able to take the data gathered from any external tool and let Surfer make sense of it in minutes! CSV Clusters will find connections between the keywords and group them for you so that you can translate that information into an actionable part of your content strategy.
β
This feature is not new and doesn't need an introduction - we know a lot of you still love to use Keyword Research over our newer solutions, so we're keeping it as an option within the Topic Explorer (no changes in how it works).
If you're interested in a more in-depth overview of all new possibilities Topic Explorer brings, I recommend reading this:
